Is there anything holding you back from the Lord’s healing power and transforming grace? On this occasion, Jesus singles out a helpless and hopeless man for almost thirty-eight years. He awakens hope when he puts a question to the man, “Do you really want to be healed?” And he then orders him to “get up and walk!” God will not force our hand against our will. The first essential step towards growth and healing is the desire for change. If we are content to stay as we are, then no amount of persuasion will change us. The Lord reveals his power and saving grace towards those who desire transformation of life in Christ. The Lord approaches each of us with the same question. “Do you really want to be changed, to be set free from the power of sin, and to be transformed into his holiness?” At the heart of these illnesses is a spiritual sickness which is called sin. Jesus asks us “do you want to be made well.” Many of us aren’t healed of our problems because we are addicted to certain thought patterns and we really don’t want to go through the hassle of change, or maybe we even like our sins. However, Jesus tells us to stop making excuses and get up! If we are truly determined to be obedient to Jesus, then nothing will stop us from receiving spiritual healing and receiving eternal life.
